SMC Alum Vernon Taylor Named Player of the Week
MONTGOMERY, AL- Former SMC Pioneer Vernon Taylor has been named Sunbelt Conference player of the week.
Taylor, a Senior at Troy University (Alabama), led the Trojans to their first league wins of the season over Western Kentucky and North Texas. "VT" scored 20 points and seven rebounds against WKU and then had 22 points as Troy defeated North Texas.
Taylor currently leads the team and ranks second in the league with 15.7 points per game.
In his two years at SMC, Taylor scored 732 points, averaged 16.2 points and 6.5 rebounds a game.
He graduted SMC with his Associate's Degree in 2009 and signed to play basketball at Troy University, an NCAA Division I institution.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The College is in its 100th academic year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
