SMC Diamond: Notes, News, and Season Week 7
SMC Update:
The Pioneers (23-5, 8-0) swept a four-game series on the road last weekend at Region X rival Pitt CC (18-5, 4-4), stretching their current winning streak to 14 games.
Who's hot: The Pioneer pitching staff was impressive, holding Pitt batters to just three runs on 12 hits in 28 innings.
RHP Ben Carlson continued to deal, improving his record to 6-0 with his fourth complete game in a 3-1 win at Pitt. He allowed just two hits and one walk in seven innings.
RHP Jake Long (3-0, 0.86 ERA) allowed just three baserunners in his start on Saturday, a 3-1 win at Pitt. He retired fifteen straight Bulldogs and has limited opposing batters to an impressive .165 batting average against in 21 innings.
1B Tyler Jackson came up with big hits in key situations all weekend. Jackson was 5 for 13 with a double and five RBI and has driven in 11 runs in the last eight games, adding up to a team-leading 29 on the season so far. CF Travis Burnside continued to swing a hot bat with a 5 for 10 weekend. He reached base seven times in 12 plate appearances.
IF/DH Luke Tollison went 5 for 14 and continued to provide extra-base punch for the Pioneers. He doubled twice to increase his team-leading total to 10 – one more than freshman C Ben Boykin, who doubled three times while going 4 for 11 in the four-game set.
