Pioneers Run Rule Limestone JV Twice
Spartanburg, SC - SMC pounded out 29 hits between two games as they run-ruled the Saints JV team, 15-5 and 11-1 on Wednesday.
Ryne Slack (Ninety Six HS) earned his first career win for the Pioneers in game one, as he threw three scoreless innings of relief, allowing two hits and a walk and striking out two.
Offensively, SMC scored multiple runs in four different innings, highlighted by a seven hit, six-run sixth that ended the game early via the ten run rule. Ben Boykin (Fort Mill HS) (3 for 4, HR, 3 RBI) and Parker Hudson (Mauldin HS) (3 for 3, 2B, 2 RBI) led a balanced offensive effort that saw ten different hitters record base hits and six drive in at least one run.
The Pioneer bats stayed hot in game two, as they scored in five out of the six innings, again ending the game early. Hudson picked up three hits for the second game in a row, including a two-run single and an RBI triple, Reggie Weatherford (Lake City HS) tallied a pair of doubles and drove in two, and Seth Neely (Rock Hill HS) was 2 for 3 with an RBI triple.
Chris Cox (Mauldin HS) picked up his first win of the season, throwing 3.1 innings of no-hit baseball and striking out four before giving up consecutive hits followed by a walk. Josh Wilson (Strom Thurmond HS) was stellar in relief, pitching 2.2 perfect innings and striking out two as the Pioneers cruised to the victory.
SMC hits the road for a three game series at East Georgia CC Saturday and Sunday (1 pm start both days), and begins region play next weekend at USC Lancaster.
