Pioneers thump Clinton JC 60-34
After dropping four straight games earlier this month the Lady Pioneer basketball team looked a little nervous. Now after winning four in a row they look really happy. "We had a very demanding stretch in our schedule and didn't play our best basketball. However, playing a couple nationally ranked teams helped us become a better all around squad." said Head Coach Briana Clark.
That was never more evident than tonights match up at Clinton JC. The Lady Pioneers(11-11) made very quick work of Clinton and improved to 6-2 in Region X play. SMC jumped out on top 21-0 in the first ten minutes. Clinton didn't score until 9:30 left in the half.
Behind the balanced play of Kierra Phillips (13 points and 10 rebounds) SMC moved into 2nd place in the region behind Denmark Tech who remains undefeated. "The loss against Clinton earlier hurt us, but we are still in a good spot and have a chance if we continue playing like we have the past four games." said Clark.
Deandra Wright added 11 points and six assists.
The Pioneers have five of their last six games at home as well as the Region tournament. Two of those meetings are against Denmark Tech.
