Lady Pioneers roll Tri County 68-42
Playing eight games in a month is a pretty tough basketball schedule for anyone. Now try doing that in twelve days and mix in a few Nationally ranked teams , toss in only three home games during that stretch and you have yourself one very tough schedule. One that first year head coach Briana Clark will not repeat next year.. "We have been put through the ringer with our schedule this year." It has made us a lot tougher and will benefit our team in the long run."
The Pioneers (10-11) easily handled Tri County Technical College 68-42 behind the offensive outburst of Kierra Phillips (20 points and 10 rebounds) and Kimberly Henderson (14 points-3 steals).
SMC (5-2) led 31-19 after a sluggish start from both teams. Phillips had 12 first half points to pace the Lady Pioneers.
"The first few minutes were a little ugly tonight, we quickly found our stroke and it all began with our defensive pressure. We got some easy transition baskets and were able to stay in our press." Stated Coach Clark.
SMC quickly added to their led in the second half behind the hot shooting of Kim Henderson. (4-6 three pointers).
"The road win moves us into second place. Hopefully we can continue this type of play on the offensive and defensive end."
SMC travels to Region X leading Clinton Junior College next Thursday.
