Lady Pioneers -Council- give Coach Clark her first win
Coming off an impressive 2010-2011 season, a new coach, and loss of several key contributors, the Pioneers could easily have struggled tonight and not many would've thought a lot about it.
However, the 2011-2012 Lady Pioneer squad showed they will be a force to contend with once again and Coach Briana Clark looked like a veteran coach on the sidelines rather than someone coaching their very first game as a head coach.
The Pioneers put up 44 points in the second half enroute to an impressive 77-52 win over Emmanuel College JV squad. "First game jitters showed up early and often in the first half said Coach Clark, We are a young team all around and it took a little while to calm our nerves. In the second half we just focused on fundamentals and the drive to win."
SMC jumped out to a early lead in the first half behind the play of sophomore Ashia Mitchell (11 points) and freshman Shanolla Council added a double double with 16 points and 12 rebounds in her first collegiate game
. The Lady Pioneers had eight different players score in the first half twelve different players scored in the game. Freshman Tamorany Harris pitched in 10 points, Dandra Wright (8 points), and Jenna White added seven points from the floor.
SMC hits the road tomorrow to take on perennial powerhouse Walters State CC.
