Lady Pioneers Win First Region 10 Game of Season
SPARTANBURG -- The Lady Pioneers shot a blistering 76 percent in the second half, making 22-29 from the floor, to run away Wednesday night from the Lady Hawks of Tri County Tech, 80-47.
The Lady Pioneers jumped out to a 20-point lead in the first half but allowed Tri County to go on a 14-point run to close the margin to 31-20 at the half.
SMC responded in the second half and made 11 straight shots to take a 49-26 lead at the 15:00 mark and never looked back.
Deidre Price (AIken HS) led the Lady Pioneers with 14 points. Shaniqua Whitley (Keenan HS) added 13 with a perfect 5-for-5 including a 3-pointer in the first half.
SMC (10-9, 1-0) will host Denmark Tech Saturday at 5 pm in Bridges Arena.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The College is in its 100th academic year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
