Lady Pioneers Fall Short
Spartanburg, SC - The Lady Pioneers fell short against the Lady Senators of Walters State Community College, 68-58, Monday night in Bridges Arena.
The Lady Pioneers took a halftime lead into the locker room, 22-19 and led the entire first half before sendering the lead midway throught the second half,40-38.
The Lady Senators (12-4) regained the lead and never surrendered it. Freshman Deandra Wright (Goose Creek HS) drained a long 3-point basket to pull the Lady Pioneers within four points with three minutes to play.
The Lady Senators responded with six points to push the lead back to eight, 61-53 with 1:00 minute left on the clock and held on for the victory.
The Lady Pioneers (9-9) were led in scoring by Whitley Smith's (Lee Central HS) 15 points.
The Lady Pioneers will host Region 10 newcomer Tri County Tech at 5:30 pm Wednesday evening at Bridges Arena.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The College is in its 100th academic year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
