Lady Pioneers Win in the Final Seconds at Emmanuel College
FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The SMC Pioneers' basketball teams both came home from a road trip to Emmanuel College with a win Monday night.
With six seconds to go in game one and the game tied 88-88, the Lady Pioneer's Whitley Smith (Lee Central HS) drove the lane and made the layup and was fouled to seal the victory for the Lady Pioneers.
The Lady Pioneers were led by Teqa McNeal's (Dreher HS) 31 points and Ashia Mitchell's (Dorman HS) 20 points and 14 rebounds in route to a 91-88 victory.
The Lady Pioneers improve to 3-6 on the season and travel to Atlanta on Wednesday to face Atlanta Metro.
In game two of the doubleheader the Pioneer men's team started the game slow as the Lions opened the game with three straight 3-pointers.
But the Pioneers' bench came alive to help seal a 63-47 victory and improve to 7-3.
The Pioneers were led by DJ Glover (Calhoun County HS) with 16 points and Dondrae Houser (Calhoun County HS) coming off the bench for 10 points.
The Pioneers return to action Wednesday as they host Caldwell Community College at Bridges Arena at 7 pm.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The College is in its 99th year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
