Lady Pioneers Down Titans
JAMESTOWN, NC – The Lady Pioneers picked up a 73-55 win Monday night in a showdown with Region X rival Guilford Tech.
The Guilford Tech Lady Titans defeated the Lady Pioneers three times last year as a Division I opponent but dropped to Division II this year.
The Lady Titans came into the game undefeated at 9-0 and was looking to keep up its winning ways with the Lady Pioneers who were coming off an important home win against Louisburg College.
The first half was tight as the Lady Pioneers took a halftime lead, 35-31, into the locker room.
The Lady Pioneers continued to play well in the second half and were led by Ashia Mitchell (Dorman HS), 21 points and 11 rebounds, and Teqa McNeal (Dreher HS) 16 points.
The Lady Pioneers improved to 5-7, snapping the 9 game win streak for the Lady Titans.
SMC returns to the court on Wednesday, Dec. 15 against the Waverly Falcons, a club team from Australia.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The College is in its 100th academic year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
