Pioneers advance to 2nd rd

The Pioneer softball quickly found themselves in a 1-0 hole against 8 seed USC-Salkehatchie, but then the bats woke up and erupted for five first inning runs behind six hits and took command of their first game. Bailey Smith and Chelsea Smith combined on a four hitter and shut down the scrappy Indian offense enroute to a 9-1 win.

SMC was led at the plate by Lauren Eastwood (3-3), Brooke Barnhill (3 hits), and Amanda Hayes (2 hits). The Pioneers pounded out 16 hits in their five at bats and now will turn their attention to #5 seed Pitt CC Saturday @ 12:30pm. Pitt defeated 4 seed FDTC 4-0 today. Pitt CC has also defeated SMC in the Championship game of the past two Region X tourneys.
