Pioneers sweep Louisburg College
The Pioneers (26-7) got strong pitching and some timely hitting to take down Louisburg College (17-7) in their four game set this past weekend. SMC took game one 3-1 behind the strong pitching of Bailey Smith and a clutch two run single by pinch-hitter Casey Whitaker. Katie Seabrook, Amanda Hayes, Alexa Ritchie, and Leea Polin all provided excellent defense to support Smith.
Game two featured Alison Ruppe working into the 7th inning. Ruppe left due to dehydration and exhaustion trailing 5-4 after Louisburg's Jamie Hockaday delivered a home run to give the Hurricanes the lead. In the bottom of the seventh, KC Shue drew a two out walk, Lauren Eastwood singled to left center. With two on and two out the stage was set for Amanda Hayes. Hayes took a Jamie Bridgers offering out of the park in deep center field for a "walk off" win for the Pioneers.
Game three showcased Pioneer lefty, Chelsea Smith. Smith bailed out the Pioneer defense on a couple occasions and worked into the 6th inning before giving way to Ruppe who closed the door for Smith.
Game four quickly got out of hand as the Pioneers stole nine bases in the game and used every facet of their offensive game behind the stellar pitching of Bailey Smith who picked up her third win in the series. SMC took the win 7-2.
SMC will travel to Surry CC on Friday and resume Region X action on Saturday and Sunday with a trip to rival Pitt CC.
