Lady Pioneers Split Sunday with Stingers of FDT
Spartanburg, SC - The Lady Pioneers move to second place in Region 10 with Sunday split with Stingers of Florence Darlington Tech.
The Lady Pioneers won game one, 3-2 as pitching continued to dominate with the third different starting pitcher picking up a quality win.
Ashira Dobison (Union HS) went seven innings and allowed four hits and two runs. FDTC scored two runs in the fourth to take the lead but the Lady Pioneers rallied once again with a two-run homer from Amanda Hayes (Picken HS) to tie the game.
The Stingers escaped a bases loaded no out jam in the fifth inning but did not avoid the same in the seventh. Jena Westmoreland (Mauldin HS) picked up her second hit of the game, Morgan Cox (Hillcrest HS) beat out a bunt single, and both runners advanced on a throwing error. Brittany Phillips (Broome HS) was intentionally walked to load the bases. With one out Lauren Eastwood (Hanahan HS) lofted a fly ball to center field to drive in Westmoreland for the winning run.
Game four of the series proved to be all Florence Darlington as they score four runs on starter Ali Ruppe (East Rutherford HS, NC) and three on reliever Britni Ward (Union HS).
The Lady Pioneer offense just could not muster enough hits on FDT starter Danielle Spivey. Morgan Cox continued her torrid hitting spree picking up 2 hits and scoring 2 runs. Bailey Smith also collected 2 hits on the day.
The Lady Pioneers moved into second place at 8-4 in Region 10 and 15-14 overall.
SMC will play host to USC Sumter on Thursday and Friday in Region X play then step outside theregion to host nationally ranked #20Georgia Perimeter College. GPC defeated SMC earlier in the year 3-2 in 8 innings.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The College is in its 100th academic year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
