News and Notes from Feb 13th – Feb 22nd
The Pioneers went 3-1 during the four game stretch that included three tough road games.
SMC currently has an overall record of 23-5 and is receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division 1 men's basketball Top 20.
In Region X play, the Pioneers are currently in 1st place with a record of 10-2. They hold a one game lead over Clinton JC with two region games remaining.
Both Dajohn Rowland and Travis Black scored a game high 17 points in a 89-75 loss on the road against USC – Salkehatchie. Mario Pendarvis recorded his 11th double double of the season scoring 10 points and pulling down 11 rebounds in the same game.
Three players scored in double figures in the 68-65 road win against Cape Fear. Mario Pendarvis led the Pioneers with 15 points, while both Travis Black and David Lighty added 10 points apiece.
Travis Black scored a career high 27 points and dished out 5 assists in the 84-83 overtime win against Brunswick. Jalen Nesbitt also had a good game in limited minutes due to fouling out. He scored 17 points and pulled down 6 rebounds. Ronell Crockett also scored in double figures with 11 points. Mario Pendarvis pulled down a game high 10 rebounds in the win.
Ronell Crockett scored a game high 16 points on 8-10 from the field in the 76-61 win against Catawba Valley. Dajohn Rowland chipped in 13 points. Brian Kidd came off the bench and contributed a career high 8 points on 4-5 from the field. Travis Black recorded 5 assists and had zero turnovers in the win.
SMC will finish out Region X play next week with two games. On Tuesday, the Pioneers will host USC – Sumter at 7:30. On Thursday, the Pioneers will host Aiken Tech at 7:30.
SMC will host the Region X Division 1 men's basketball tournament. First round games will be played on March 8th, semi-finals on March 9th and championship on March 10th.
