Pioneers Slip By Denmark Tech
Denmark, SC - DJ Glover (Calhoun County HS) sank two free throws with 14 seconds left in regulation Thursday night to seal victory for the Pioneers at Denmark Tech.
Glover finished with 21 points as the Pioneers (15-6, 2-3 Region X) won 70-68.
SMC took a halftime lead into the locker room 39-33, but Denmark fought back in the second half to take a 6 point lead midway through the half.
With less than two minutes to play Mario Pendarvis (Summerville HS) hit a 15-foot jumpshot to tie the game at 68.
Glover was fouled with 14 seconds remaining and stepped to the line a drained two free throws to give the Pioneers a two point lead, 70-68.
Denmark rushed down the court and got a great shot in the lane but it rolled off the rim as Pendarvis batted the ball to midcourt as the buzzer went off.
DJ Brown (Wren HS) scored 13 points and Tim Budd (Fort Dorchester) added 10.
The Pioneers return home Sunday to face Brunswick CC at 4 pm.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
