Pioneers Down Panthers
SPARTANBURG -- Tim Budd (Fort Dorchester HS) led the SMC Pioneers 20 points Saturday afternoon for a big 64-57 Region 10 win over Denmark Tech.
Denmark Tech took at a 23-12 lead midway through the first half as the Pioneers struggled to score and control the ball.
But the Pioneers fought back and used a 12-0 run to cut the lead at 23-20 with four minutes to go in the first half. SMC continued the comeback and led 32-27 at the half.
The Pioneers stretched the lead to 36-27 in the first minute of the second half.
CJ Gleaton (Pendleton HS) twisted his ankle with 11:30 left in the second half and never returned to finish with 15 points.
The Pioneers (13-5, 1-2) continued to play hard and held on for the win.
The Pioneers return to action at home Wednesday, Jan. 16 vs. Clinton Junior College.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The College is in its 100th academic year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
