Pioneers Turnover Win to Cape Fear
SPARTANBURG -- The Pioneers shot 7-for-20 from the foul line and committed 26 turnovers Wednesday night and lost, 67-55, to Cape Fear CC at home.
SMC fell behind early in the game 13-3 and trailed the all of the first half but close the gap to 34-28 at the half.
Sophomore CJ Gleaton (Pendleton HS) was whistled with three fouls in the first half and was virtually ineffective for the Pioneers the entire night. Gleaton received his 4th foul at 18:37 in the second half and returned the bench.
The Pioneers responded strong and cut the Cape Fear lead to 1 point with 16 minutes to play on a Michael Lowe (Greenwood HS) lay up.
Cape Fear (13-5) countered with a an 8-point burst to extend the lead back to 7 points and held on for the win.
Johnathan Jones (Timmonsville HS) led SMC with 12 points off the bench. Tim Budd (Fort Dorchester HS) added nine and DJ Glover (Calhoun HS) scored eight.
SMC (12-5, 0-2) will host Denmark Tech Saturday at 3 pm.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
