Pioneers Spend Thanksgiving Break on the Road
SPARTANBURG, SC – The Pioneer men's and women's basketball teams both spent their Thanksgiving holiday on the road participating in out-of-state tournaments.
The men's team participated in the Holiday Inn Thanksgiving Tournament hosted by Tallahassee Community College, November 24-25.
The Pioneers opened up the tournament with a 67-61 victory over Brevard (FL) Community College.
CJ Gleaton (Pendleton HS) led the Pioneers with 16 points and DJ Glover (Calhoun County HS) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds.
On Thanksgiving Day, the Pioneers faced host Tallahassee CC and went down to defeat, 76-58. DJ Brown led all scorers with 20.
The Pioneers, 6-3, return to action Monday as they travel to Emmanuel College.
The Lady Pioneers traveled to the Georgia Perimeter College Classic, November 26-27, and on Friday faced Meridian College.
SMC played hard and forced the game into overtime but was defeated 89-80. The Lady Pioneers were led by Ashia Mitchell's (Dorman HS) 16 points and 8 rebounds.
On day two of the tournament, the Lady Pioneers faced No. 10 South Georgia Technical Community College and lost 71-50.
Ashia Mitchell and Tequila McNeal (Dreher HS) led the Lady Pioneers with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
The Lady Pioneers, 2-6, return to action Monday as they travel with the men to play Emmanuel.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The College is in its 99th year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
