USC-Sumter
Bruce Caldwell did it again... The Region X Player of the Year delivered a two run "walk off" homerun in the bottom of the 10th inning to propel SMC into the championship game. Tyler Wilson provided strong relief out of the bullpen and starter Jonathon Pulley kept SMC close while the bats were quiet. SMC trailed 4-2 and tied it up in the 7th. They took a 7-4 lead into the top of the 9th but Sumter rallied for three runs to tie the game. The table was set for Caldwell in the 10th. Two outs and Dacen Cash was hit by a pitch and Caldwell stepped to the plate and provided the fireworks.
The Pioneers will now wait for someone to come out of the loser bracket and SMC must be beaten twice tomorrow. One win from hosting the District Championship here on May 19-20.
