Recipe for Success
The main ingredients of 2011 version Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneer Volleyball team will have a slightly different look this season under third year head coach Susie Williams.
Leadership, experience, and youthful talent!
"We have five sophomores this season that have welcomed the team leadership role and helped bring along our incoming freshman at a solid pace. The one year the returners have under their belt with collegiate experience , whether its adjusting to the competition or just managing a student-athletes everyday life here on campus has played a huge impact on our overall growth as a family and team." said Coach Williams
The freshmen bring a wealth of talent to the floor this year at SMC and several look to break the starting line-up and everyone looks to contribute early and often. "A few of our freshmen have made huge strides while everyone is doing what I ask of them. We will get to the point we need to be quickly this season and that's a compliment to everyone on the floor."
The added overall talent to the squad will be needed right away as the Pioneers will take on another tough schedule. Trips to Gulf Coast Community College, Wallace State Community College and also Pitt Community College while hosting the Pioneers Classic will test this eager team throughout the season. "We want a challenging schedule so we can learn and understand where we are with our skills and knowledge of the game."
For the Pioneers to make the post-season, they must have a .500 or better winning percentage against NJCAA D1 programs. "Missing out on the post-season last year did not sit well with us and we want to make sure we are having a shot at the NJCAA National Tournament again."
" We have set the bar high for this season stated Coach Williams, I know the players can reach these lofty goals as long as we play as hard as we can every time we step on the floor in competition and practice."
If the pre-season workouts and scrimmages have shown anything to the Lady Pioneers, it's that hard work combined with leadership, experience, and some new blood is a great recipe for success!! Good Luck SMC Volleyball
