SMC Girls Finish Strong: Looking ahead to 2012-2013
Clarkesville, GA: Brooke Cantrell led the Lady Pioneers in route to an individual finish of 21st place in the NCAA Piedmont College Spring Invitational. Cantrell shot rounds to 86 and 81. Lee University, ranked #3 in the latest NAIA national poll, won the even with a 305-299-604 to edge second place Methodist University by five strokes. MU is the 12-time defending NCAA Division III national champion and is ranked #1 in the most recent Division III poll. Methodist University's "B" team earned the third place crystal trophy.Lee's Courtney Shelton earned tournament medalist honors with a 72-74--146 setting a new Spring Invitational scoring record.
Chandler Mansel played strong for SMC with rounds of 88 and 84, while Sarah Hunter had her best showing of the year with rounds of 88 and 87. This marks the first time this year where no SMC golfer had a round in the 90's and with the new recruits for the 2012-2013 golf season, SMC Women's Golf looks to have a bright future
