WINTERVILLE, NC., SMC Softball swept Pitt Community College over the weekend in a crucial region series, The Pioneers improved to 8-0 in Region X play and 39-7 overall. SMC hit nine home runs in the four game series and increased their season total to 56 which is 6th in the country.
GAME ONE: SMC 4 PITT 1
Bailey Pearson(11-2) struck out nine in seven innings of work while allowing one run on four hits as SMC took the opening game of the series. Maddy Labrador (1-2, 2R,RBI, HR) and Morgan Smith (1-2, R, HR, RBI) each hit solo shots to lead the Pioneer offense. Maddie Ward (1-3) and Pearson (1-3, RBI)
GAME TWO: SMC 11 PITT 1
Kayla Price improved to 8-2 on the season with the game two win. Price allowed three hits, one run, and struck out three. Labrador (3-4, 2R) hit her 5th home run of the year and drove in four runs. Kaleigh Busbee went 1-2 with a home run and drove in three runs. Olivia Dunlap added a ground rule double and drove in two.
GAME THREE: SMC 10 PITT 1
The bats stayed hot in the first game on Sunday as SMC hit four more home runs and Kaylee Freeman was dominant in the circle. Freeman improved to 13-2 on the year, she struck out eight and only allowed one run on one hit in six innings. Kaleigh Busbee's sixth home run of the year was a grand slam in the six run sixth inning. Morgan Smith (2-4) hit a three run home run in the third inning to give the Pioneers the lead after trainly for only one inning. Mary Hart and Bailey Pearson each added solo home runs and Brooke Palmer went 2-4 with two runs scored.
GAME FOUR: SMC 9 PITT 1
Strong pitching and hitting continued in game four as SMC won their thrid game in a row by run rule. Teagan Crosby, Kayla Price (9-2), and Kaylee Freeman combined to hol the Bulldogs to one run. Morgan Howard went 1-2 with four rbi, Brooke Palmer (1-2, 3R, RBI) hit her sixth home run of the season and Maddie Labrador went 2-3.
SMC will travel to Surry CC on Tuesday and return home this weekend to face Louisburg College.
