Pioneers defeat USC-Salk- Mr. Lisco Thomas honored.
Lisco Thomas, the first ever African-American to attend SMC was honored at halftime and presented one of the "100 Pioneer" awards by President Dr. Keith. Mr. Thomas enrolled in 1967 at Spartanburg Methodist and graduated in 1969 with a Associate in Arts Degree. He went on to Furman University and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Interdiscplinary Studies.
Mr. Thomas quoted " My time here at SMC is very special to me. I was treated just like any other person on campus. Most of my friends came from my teammates on the basketball team. I loved playing here at SMC and will never forget it." Dr. Keith stated that Mr. Thomas set the bar very high for student-athletes at SMC and elsewhere. He excelled on and off the basketball court during his time as a Pioneer."

The visiting Indians came out strong in the second half with high intensity pressure defense and quickly trimmed the large Pioneer lead down. However, the Pioneers regained their focus and took care of the basketball down the stretch to preserve a crucial Region X victory and move to 4-1 in Region play.
