SPARTANBURG, SC- SMC alums Travis Witherspoon and Heath Hembree are ranked among the top 20 prospects in the Pioneer League and Arizona League respectively.
Witherspoon was a 2009 draft selection of the California Angels and played for the Orem Owlz as an outfielder, batting .309 with 89 hits and 10 homeruns this summer. He is ranked the No. 17 prospect in the Pioneer League at the MLB Rookie level.
Heath Hembree was drafted in 2010 by the San Francisco Giants after attending SMC and College of Charleston. He is currently ranked No. 16 in the Arizona League at the MLB Rookie level. In 12 games this year for the Giants, Hembree struck out 22 in 11 innings pitched.
Both Witherspoon and Hembree played on the 2009 SMC World Series team that finished 5th in Grand Junction, CO.

Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia and West Virginia.
