Robbie Higdon Coach Robbie Higdon is entering his fifth year as head coach for the SMC wrestling program 2010-2011 season. Higdon brings several years of coaching and wrestling experience to the Pioneer program. A native of Bradenton, FL, Higdon is a graduate of Southeast High School where he was captain and MVP of his high school wrestling team. He was a Sunshine State Games Champion and runner up in the Florida Freestyle State Championships. He went on to wrestle for UNC-Pembroke where as captain he was a two-time national qualifier and NCAA All-American. During this time, he also went on to win and coach team Florida at the Hawaii International Open. Upon graduating from UNC-Pembroke, Higdon returned home to Bradenton where he taught and served as the assistant wrestling coach at Southeast High. Wanting to further his education, Higdon went on to get a Masters in Education from Carson-Newman College in Tennessee, where he was assistant wrestling coach for three years and helped produce six All-Americans and one National Champion. From Carson-Newman he went on and coached high school football and golf in Latta, South Carolina, while refereeing for high school and college wrestling tournaments. He then went back to coaching wrestling as the head coach at Darlington High School, for two years producing two state qualifiers. In Higdon’s four years at SMC, he has coached twenty-five national qualifiers and six All-Americans. The Pioneer wrestling program has placed as high as ninth in the nation and placed second and third at the district ten tournaments.Along with coaching at SMC, Higdon currently teaches physical education at Holly Springs in Campobello, SC and resides in Spartanburg with his wife Carmen, and their two children Bo and Lily. |

Marty Fajerman Fajerman has served as an assistant coach since 2003, the first year of the wrestling program at SMC. Fajerman was a prep national champ with over 100 wins in high school. He wrestled at Furman University and had 114 college wins. While at Furman, he was the Sothern Conference Champion and a Division 1 National Qualifier. He previously served as an assistant coach at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for four years and assistant coach for Davidson College for three years. |
